The EQ Awards are juried by professionals from all areas of the home building industry.

Mike Collins-Williams – Director, Policy at Ontario Home Builders’ Association

Mike Collins-Williams is a Registered Professional Planner and graduate of Ryerson University’s Urban and Regional Planning program. He is the Director of Policy at the Ontario Home Builders’ Association and is responsible for government relations and land development issues impacting the housing and land development industry.

Sonja Winkelmann – Director, Net Zero Energy Housing at Canadian Home Builders’ Association

As Director of Net Zero Energy (NZE) Housing at the CHBA, Sonja is coordinating a collaborative effort to advance NZE housing in Canada with guidance from the NZE Housing Council. Prior to the CHBA, Sonja was the Executive Director of the Net-Zero Energy Home Coalition. Her career in the energy efficient housing industry started at EnerVision; a Service Organization that delivers programs such as EnerGuide, Built Green™, R-2000, and LEED-H. Sonja’s formal education is in Business Administration and Environmental Management.

Elizabeth McDonald – President and CEO of the Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance

Elizabeth McDonald has experience as a senior executive, industry advocate, industry advisor and board member with over 25 years experience in government relations, advocacy, organizational management, and communications with an accomplished record of service as a diplomatic intermediary between industry and government. In August of 2012, she accepted the position of President and CEO of the Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance (CEEA), the national voice of energy efficiency and conservation in Canada. Since that time she has worked with the Board of CEEA on a strategic review of CEEA, developing new communication tools and launching CEEA’s surveys of Canadians on energy efficiency and conservation.

Bruce Manwaring – Manager, Residential Sales at Enbridge

.Bruce leads Enbridge Gas Distribution’s Residential, Low Income and New Construction Demand Side Management programs and their collaborative delivery with the Ontario Government’s Climate Change Action Plan and electrical Local Distribution Companies.  Joining Enbridge in 1993, Bruce has held roles in various Enbridge businesses including Natural Gas for Vehicles, Gas New Brunswick expansion, DSM, and managing Contract Compliance for Large Volume Customers and Gas Brokers, returning to DSM in 2016.

Cindy Kaye –Advertising/Marketing Associate at Laurel Oak Marketing Ltd.

Cindy Kaye has worked in sales and marketing at Laurel Oak Marketing Ltd. since 2013. Cindy works with her clients within the home building industry with the goal of improving their marketing reach to Ontario home builders. Her projects consist of Ontario Home Builder magazine, ohba.ca and Ontario Builder Forum. Before joining Laurel Oak, Cindy worked in marketing and event management at Sun Media for its consumer and trade show division.Cindy is passionate about her role in building relationships amongst suppliers, manufactures and professionals in Ontario’s residential construction industry.

Darlene Goode – Key Account Manager at Redmond Williams Distributing

Darlene is a Key Account Manager at Redmond Williams Distributing, a full service distributor of innovative, high end, quality HVAC, Hydronic Home Heating and Hearth. Including products such as Tankless Water Heaters, Boilers, Air Handlers and Geothermal (Ground Source Heat Pumps).

Darlene has been in the Energy industry for over 20 years. Started as a clerk with Consumers Gas in 1992. Store Manager with Enbridge Home Services. Team Lead for National Accounts with Direct Energy Business Services and Acting Reconciliation Manager with Direct Energy Home Services.Graduate of McMaster University.

Darlene is grateful to have had the opportunity to have been involved with Niagara Women Build for Habitat for Humanity, Halton-Mississauga Habitat for Humanity and a volunteer with Niagara Big Sisters organization.

Mike Cote- Senior Advisor & Deputy Registrar at Tarion

Mike has been in the residential construction industry over 35 years. Mike has been a judge for OHBA awards program for the last 15 years. Prior to joining the Warranty Program in 1989, he was involved in the municipal and private sector areas of residential and commercial construction.

Dave Potter – Chief Building Official, Town of Newmarket

Dave has held positions of Plans Examiner and Building Inspector as well as responsibilities for Bylaw Enforcement and Property Standards during his 34 year career working in the municipal sector.He has provided Building Code Consulting Services to other municipal jurisdictions, the Insurance industry, builders and designers on matters related to the application and interpretation of the Building Code.

Dave’s formal education includes a Diploma in Architectural Technology from Centennial College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management from Ryerson and a Diploma in Public

Steven Street – Technical Director at Canadian Wood Council

Steven has been with Wood WORKS! since 2007 after a career in design and off-site panelisation and factory prefabrication. As Technical Manager, he provides market information and technical support to design professionals, developers & builders. Steven is actively involved in a number of key Canadian market development programs, including the role wood plays in advancing mid-rise and tall wood building construction. He engages with Stakeholder groups, and currently sits on the board of the Ontario Structural Wood Association, and is an active member of RESCON’s technical council. Steven regularly presents at Colleges and Universities on wood and its uses.

Dan Murphy – Director, Builder Sales at Reliance Home Comfort

Dan Murphy is the Director, Builder Sales at Reliance Home Comfort, Canada’s largest rental water heater and HVAC company. He and his team work with builders to provide comfort solutions to Canadian homebuyers. Prior to this role, Dan has worked over the last 9 years within Reliance’s Sales, Marketing and Business Development teams.He holds an MBA from Wilfrid Laurier University and sits on the board of the Dr. Tom Pashby Sports Safety Fund. He and his wife and two daughters are avid alpine skiers.

Doug Tarry – Director of Marketing and Lead Designer at Doug Tarry Homes

Doug Tarry is a Past President of the Ontario Home Builders Association and currently serves as the OHBA technical chair. Doug is also the chair of the SB-12 working group between OHBA, OBOA and the LMCBO, which provides stakeholder feedback to MMAH on energy efficient requirements (including those that will take effect on January 1, 2017) and developed of the Energy Efficiency Design Summary (EEDS) form. In addition to providing industry updates and training sessions, Doug is also a member of the MMAH Building Code Conservation Advisory Council and the CHBA Net Zero Energy Council. He also works with manufacturers and colleges on product development and better building practices. Doug is the Director of Marketing and Lead Designer with Doug Tarry Homes, a family-owned, St. Thomas-based business started by his father Doug Sr. that is now jointly run by Doug Jr. and his siblings, Bill and Greg and mother Frances.

Wells Baker – Director of Conservation and Sustainable Design at the Minto Group Inc.

Wells Baker is the Director of Conservation and Sustainable Design at the Minto Group Inc. He leads a team of engineers and specialists focused on improving product quality and building performance in both Minto’s new developments and existing building portfolio. Minto is a residential developer and landlord with operations in Toronto, Ottawa, London, Calgary, Edmonton, and Florida.

Stefanie Coleman-Dias – Owner at Coleman-Diaz 3 Construction

Stefanie Coleman-Dias and husband John started Coleman-Dias³ Construction Inc., a residential Design+Build Renovation firm, in St Thomas, ON, after moving there from Winnipeg in 2005 with their son Alex.John spent more than 20 years in the industry prior to their move, so starting a construction business in St Thomas, where Stefanie’s family lived, was a natural fit. For Stefanie, construction is a second career – after graduating from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelors in Human Ecology, she had a 10-year career in the Fashion Industry, ending in 2005 as a Clothing Buyer for national retail clothing chain Ricki’s.

She soon discovered there are many cross-over skills between fashion and construction. Layering onto her design and business management background, Stefanie has taken many training courses in construction and building science and received numerous certifications, including the OBC BCIN, HRAI RASDT, Thermography and EnerQuality’s Green Renovator. She is a former Certified Energy Advisor for NRCan’s ecoENERGY, EnerGuide and ENERGY STAR® for New Homes programs. Most recently she has completed Radon Certification.Stefanie is passionate about the industry and its importance to the wellbeing of homeowners and their families. She seeks ways for continual improvement in her own work and the industry as a whole, and believes raising the bar of professionalism will have a positive impact on encouraging people to consider our industry as a viable career choice.

In 2005, Coleman-Dias³ Construction Inc. became members of the St Thomas & Elgin Home Builders Association (STEHBA) and Stefanie became actively involved on the board and committees. In 2012, she served as President for STEHBA and has volunteered on numerous industry committees including the Reno Councils at all three levels, the Management Committee of the CHBA Net Zero Energy Council, and advisory panels for the renovation sector. In 2016 she was elected to the Canadian Home Builders’ Association Executive Board and is currently serving as Second Vice President.
